CALL OF DUTY 2017 POSSIBLY RETURNING TO WORLD WAR 2 SETTING
Time: Mar. 28, 2017Seemingly leaked marketing materials appear to indicate that Sledgehammer Games' 2017 installment of Call of Duty:Black Ops III - Nuketown Steam CD Key will be subtitled "WW2" - something IGN's sources have also indicated.
Sent anonymously to YouTube channel TheFamilyVideoGamers, images of promotional materials and steelbook designs show beach landings and World War 2-era clothing and weapons.
As always, rumors like these are subject to fakery, or may even come from outdated information.
If true, however, this move has been quite a long time coming. Fans have repeatedly called for a return to the setting (the series cut its teeth with World War 2 games), and publisher Activision was even saying a WW2 game was possible back in 2015.
Earlier this year, an Activision investor call sparked speculation when a presentation slide explained that 2017's entry "will take Call of Duty back to its roots".
It's become something of a tradition for Call of Duty games to spring a springtime leak - around the same time last year, insiders correctly predicted 2016's Infinite Warfare's setting, alongside early marketing materials showing its reveal dates popping up.
